Is there a better way to learn HTML/CSS

Although the presentation and projects were helpful to learn css/html, I don't think doing much more than that is necessary. Its better to learn it as you go because except for some of the basic concepts all that is left to learn is properties and some manipulations which will easily fade from memory. So instead of doing code avengerns I would probably have done a project where students must make some semi complex static page and let them figure out how to do it because the essential part of html css is to know how to find what to look for on the web not the actual information.
